My Eighth Grade Year in Short

Remember the first time you walked into school the first day of school? The day where everything was so big and overwhelming? The day where you say to yourself, this is where my next two years will be held? These were the thoughts that were racing around in my head like race horses on steroids at the Kentucky Derby. But although all my doubts, I kept my chin up, and this turned out to be one of the best school years of my life.

My eighth grade year was full to the brim with awesome friends. I met some great new friends that I hope will see next year. I also ran into some really old friends that I haven’t seen since elementary school. I’m really glad that I got to meet new and old acquaintances. I also made some good friends with some of the teachers.

This year also had countless funny moments. You have no idea what my friends and I come up with. In the classroom (when we’re not working, of course) its non stop funnies. At lunch is even crazier. We are always talking about something funny, or just something interesting. The teachers even like to have fun with us! My friends and I love to joke around every chance we get.

Although there were a whole lot of great moments, there were also some sad ones too. For example, one of my best friends moved away. I have known him for what seems like forever. We still stay in touch, but it’s still hard to have a best buddy move away. There was also a time where I thought I was going to lose another friend. She said she was moving, and I didn’t see her for about a week. Then, a couple days later, she came back! It turned out she didn’t move because her mom found a job here instead.

So, if you’re going to a new school and you’re reading this, remember, it will never be as bad as long as you hold your head high and strong. I know my year was bursting with awesome friends, filled with tons of laughs, and had but a few sad moments. I had lots of fun this year, and I can’t wait till the next year rolls around.

The Day the Jazz Band Blew CRMS's Minds

Have you ever got that feeling that everything’s on you? That feeling that if you make one mistake it’s all over? Well if you haven’t, that’s the feeling you get when you’re the drummer in a band. The best you can do is stay focused, and don’t think about it too much.

I was in seventh grade when the Jazz Band played for the talent show. We set up in the gym next to the stage. The Saxes were in front with the trumpets, the trombone was behind them and the guitar and bass by him. The drums were in the back, but still visible. I was all nerves and shaky legs when it was my song to play. As Mr. Adams counted off everything went quiet.

“Get out I Got Rhythm,” said Mr. Adams in a stage whisper. He counted, “One, two, one two three four!” I started with a jazz beat, along with the trumpets and Saxes. As we played, I tried to not think too much. After a while, I stopped thinking I would fail, and just played my heart out. It came time for my solo, but I was prepared. I had made up an awesome solo earlier that day, and I didn’t miss a beat. When my solo was over, everyone cheered. The rest of the song went as smooth as ice.

As we ended the last song, everyone stood up and started clapping. We even got a couple whistles from some of the parents. I looked over to Mr. Adams, and the look on his face told me we did a superior job. After the talent show, Brad came over and wanted an interview with Dakota and me. We said, “We were just having fun, no sweat.”

I think the only reason that I didn’t munk up too bad was that I listened to my brother, “stay focused and don’t think, just play.” I remembered this statement right when I sat down to play. That made me calm. So remember, just focus and you can do whatever you need to.

Anecdotal Intro

Billy is swimming in the lagoon, where he knows he's not supposed to. As he swims along, a ripple apears in the distance. Suddenly, something erups from the lagoon, in a glorious wave of water. When all calmss down, both the shark and the boy are nowhere to be found. All that is left is a shoe and a pool of blood. You shouldn't swim where you know youre not supposed to.

March Essay Writing Contest

The time was 10:00 in the small town of Maple Valley. We were standing outside of the church’s gym waiting to be let in to set up. It was the day for the great battle of the bands. Honestly, this was our bands first real gig. We’ve done shows in my garage and in the park before, but nothing like this. This was big. This was massive. This was like going from coaching weekend tee-ball games to being in the big leagues.

There’s a certain tension in the air when everyone is holding their breath waiting for the next name to be called. Personally, I hate the feeling. The weight of the pressure to do well was the weight of ten men sitting on our shoulders, and the whole band knew it. We were all doubtful about the new song, considering it was an original. That really got us jumpy and we were all about to soil ourselves when our name was called. We walked onto the stage.

The lights were dimmed, except for the stage. For some reason, it felt like the spotlight was on my drum set. Probably because I was so nervous. Anyway, as we sat down, or at least I did, the lights focused on the singer. Everyone was as quiet as a mouse in a library. The guitar started. I thought, this is it, man, you’re gonna fail, just watch. “Shut up!” I told myself. I talk to myself a lot. We’re sounding good so far, I thought. After a while of playing, I calmed down. I stopped thinking, and just played. I wasn’t thinking anymore, I was feeling. Once the song ended, relief flooded through me like the warmth of a cup of coffee on a cold morning.

After the song, and it went great by the way, we walked of the stage with the crowd cheering. Some of it was I hope from them liking our song, but I think most of it was because we were the youngest group. After the rest of the bands were finished, the called everyone on the stage. They called off the third and second place names. As the announcer was opening the paper to read the first place prize, all fell into a deep silence. Everyone was holding their breaths as they said, "and the winner is, Blue thunder!" "Dang it!" we cried. Oh, yeah, our name was the Sultans of Rock. In the end, we placed eighth out of twenty-something. The important thing was, we stayed together through the end.

Awesome riddle

My Best Times Essay

My best time was when I got my first drum set. The drum set that I had before that was a cheap First Act paper and plastic one. I knew that I desperately needed another set. There was a hole in every drum and a dent in every symbol from me wailing on it so hard. Now that I have a real set, I have made so many modifications that it doesn’t even look like the same set.

This was the best time of my life because one; this was my first real set, and two; I knew I would be using it a lot for a long time. I got it for Christmas when I was at least seven, but don’t quote me on that, I can’t remember exactly. I have been playing since five though. Anyway, immediately after I found it in the living room, I started to jam. I called my friend, Aaron over, who just got a new guitar, and we rocked out for a bit. I can remember the look of sheer excitement on his face when he saw the drums. I know I had the same look when I saw that shining set for the first time.

I have replaced everything on my set except for the bass drum, toms, and floor tom. None of the symbols are original, including the hi-hat and hi-hat stand. I took out the bass pedal, and swapped it with a double pedal. I have put on an amazingly awesome, gigantor cowbell. Also, the almighty throne is a new and better one. All of these modifications were completely necessary to make it the best drum set it could be. Although, I have a feeling I’ll never be done making changes to it and making it better each time.

I love to have jam sessions with my bro, who shreds the guitar. We play classic rock, hard rock, and almost any kind of rock you can think of. We also do Latin and funk. Our favorite bands that we cover are the one and only Red Hot Chili Peppers, the awesome Led Zeppelin, and the classic and amazing AC/DC. I am also in a band called, Arsenic Jello. I know! It’s an awesome name isn’t it? Anyway, the members of the band are Kelcie on screaminvox and guitar, Mike on rippin’ lead guitar and vox, Jess on boomin’ bass, Austin on the magic keyboard, and yours truly on the flying drums. We are the royalty of classic rock. All you classic rock bands out there, be afraid because you will eventually bow to us by judgement day.
If you are in desperate need of something new to replace something old, do what i did; make sure that it will last. After all, I am still using my first set, I have just made it better to be able to withstand all the rockin out I do. Every time I sit on the throne of my drums, I think of the moment of total awe of that glistening, shining, hypnotizing, glorious drum set in the living room.
